Middle School Teacher Receives Milken Award and a $25,000 Surprise

According to Montgomery County Public Schools :

A seventh grade MCPS English teacher got a $25,000 surprise on Tuesday (Nov. 29). Madeline Hanington, a teacher at Gaithersburg Middle School, received a Milken Educator Award from the Milken Family Foundation, which includes a $25,000 prize that she can use however she chooses. Hanington did not even know she was up for the award when she attended an assembly Tuesday morning with Lt. Gov. Anthony G. Brown, interim State Superintendent of Schools Bernard J. Sadusky and other dignitaries.

Hangington was not only recognized for the outstanding achievement of her students, but also for her innovative teaching methods, her leadership in the school community and her efforts to engage and involve parents.

The Gaithersburg-Germantown Chamber (GGCC) is proud to announce that this year they will award five Montgomery College students a one-year full scholarship. Three engineering students, one business student, and one pharmacy student will receive the scholarships.

The GGCC believes that an educated workforce helps everyone’s bottom line; and the donations from Chamber businesses and partners will help students at Montgomery College explore their “endless possibilities”.

Jim Muir, Assistant Vice President, Hughes Network Systems, has been diligent in securing donations to meet the Chamber’s goal of $25,000.

The response has been outstanding. We are pleased to have the following companies support the foundation:

· Deerfield Construction

· DeLeon & Stang, CPAs & Advisors
