Prosecutor: Boy Killed With Baseball Bat | News
GERMANTOWN, Md. (WUSA) -- The gruesome murder of a Germantown mother and her 11-year-old son may have all been over a car.
In a bond review hearing Thursday for Curtis Lopez, prosecutors told the judge that Lopez actually texted photographs of his estranged wife's SUV to his girlfriend telling her "here's your car."
Prosecutors also told the judge that Lopez took young William McQuain with him to a storage facility, got a baseball bat, stuck it behind his chair and then took the boy out to the woods in Clarksburg. He proceeded to beat him to death with it.
The bloody baseball bat was recovered near the boy's body. The boy's skull had been battered into pieces. A judge declined to set any bond amount that wouldallow Lopez to be released pending trial.
Montgomery County State's attorney John McCarthy said he is still unsure whether he will seek the death penalty.
Public defender Alan Drew insisted that it was an entirely circumstantial case.
Lopez is being held on a no bond status. His next court appearance will be on Dec. 2.
