GERMANTOWN, Md. (WUSA9) -- One person is dead after a shooting involving Montgomery County police in Germantown, Md.

Antoine Duane Goodrum, 27, called police to say he had shot and killed his grandmother and his roommate at the house located in the 19000 block of Red Robin Terrace, Montgomery County police spokesperson Capt. Jim Daly said.

He was wearing a tactical utility vest and armed with an AR-15 rifle, confronted officers a few blocks from the scene of the original call, Daly said.

Police ordered the armed man to drop his weapon and he refused. Police tried to negotiate with him for about 12 minutes until they shot and killed him in the area of Great Seneca Highway and Grotto Lane, according to police.

Police searched the home and found no one shot inside, Daly said.

Seven Officers were involved in this incident. Police said in a press release "As is standard procedure, the involved officers have been placed on paid, administrative leave pending the outcome of this investigation."
