GERMANTOWN, Md. (WUSA9) -- A Hagerstown man pleaded guilty Wednesday to shooting and killing his ex-girlfriend in the parking lot of a Target store in Germantown.

Donald Bricker Jr. was charged with one count of first-degree murder for shooting 25-year-old Mariam Adebayo on June 1. The two agreed to meet after Bricker threatened harm himself after Adebayo ended their relationship.

Witnesses told police that Adebayo and Bricker 28, were fighting in a car in the parking lot when she got out to get away from Bricker. He then got out of the car, holding a gun, and fired at Adebayo, police said.

Adebayo, 24, graduated from the University of Maryland in 2013 with a degree in public health. She also graduated from Seneca Valley High School in Germantown in 2009.

Bricker faces in life in prison for the shooting when he is sentenced on February 26, 2016.
