GERMANTOWN, Md. (WUSA9) -- A 53-year-old Frederick County man was found about 50 yards from his vehicle after it went off I-270 early Sunday morning, Maryland State police said.

According to police, Michael Stephen Bolton was driving his white Subaru Legacy heading north on I-270. At approximately 12:41 a.m. Sunday, police received a report that Bolton was traveling at about 80 miles per hour and his vehicle overturned on I-270 at the ramp to Middle Brook Road.

When officers arrived on scene they found the Subaru about 15 feet into the woods with Bolton fully ejected and about 50 yards to the rear of the vehicle.

Due to extensive trauma to Bolton's head, the medical examiner pronounced him dead at the scene.
