GERMANTOWN, Md. (WUSA9) -- A woman died after she was shot in the parking lot of the Target store in Germantown by her ex-boyfriend Monday night, according to Montgomery County police.

Police say 24-year-old Mariam Folashade Adebayo succumbed to her injuries at a hospital after the shooting at 20908 Frederick Road at approximately 7:30 p.m. Monday. Police received multiple 911 calls about the shooting.

When officers arrived they found Adebayo suffering from a gunshot wound. The 27-year-old suspect, Donald Wayne Bricker of Hagerstown, had fled from the parking lot in a white pick-up truck, say police.

Witnesses gave officers a description of the truck, which was broadcast on police radio. An officer found the truck and other officers turned on their cruisers' lights and sirens to try to get the truck to stop. The driver continue to drive so they followed the truck to the 15800 block of Darnestown Road (Route 28). It was there at 8:12 p.m. that the vehicle crashed and police were able to arrest the suspect.

Bricker was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries that he sustained in the collision, according to police. He remains there on Tuesday morning.

A handgun was found at the crash scene.

Adebayo and Bricker had dated for six months, family told WUSA9. The two broke up but Bricker continued to threaten Abedayo, family said.

Police say Abedayo and Bricker had planned to meet at the shopping center to talk.
