Army Ten-Miler 2012 Sells Out in Record Time

 

From Matt Hagan: Another record-breaking milestone! The 2012 Army Ten-Miler (ATM) filled its 30,000 runner field in a record time. ATM officials announced today that the 28th annual race shattered all previous race registration records for both the priority and general registrations. The highly anticipated race will take place on Sunday, Oct. 21 in Washington, DC at the U.S. Pentagon.

2 Stole Keys From Gym Lockers, Stole Credit Cards From Cars

GAITHERSBURG, Md. (WUSA) -- The Frederick County Bureau of Investigation says two women stole car keys from a gym and stole credit cards from cars in the parking lot before making purchases at two businesses.

According to the FCBI, deputies received reports of stolen car keys at the Fitness First Club on Westview Drive on Saturday. Deputies learned the keys were taken from lockers and later used to get into vehicles in the parking lot.  Credit cards were stolen from the vehicles and used at the Giant Food store in Gaithersburg and at the CVS Pharmacy in Germantown. A total of $350 was charged on the cards.

Police describe the first suspect as a black female approximately 25 years old, with wavy hair and heavy build, who is approximately 5'6" tall. They say the second suspect is also a black female and is about the same age. She has brown hair and brown eyes.

Free Digital World Tech Expo at Local Retirement Community

Accoding to The Nielsen Company, the number of people ages 50 and older actively using the Internet has increased by more than 55 percent to 17.7 million users last year.

For this reason, the public is invited to a free Digital World Tech Expo at Riderwood retirement community on June 27.

Located at 3140 Gracefield Road in Silver Spring, the tech expo will help attendees learn to use technology to stay connected with family, track personal finances and health care information while being entertained.

The tech expo is the first of its kind in the region and will be held from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. in the Performance Hall on the Riderwood campus.

Teacher Arrested For Sex-Related Offenses

GERMANTOWN, Md. (WUSA)  - A man has been arrested for several sex-related offenses, according to Montgomery County Police. 

Cuyler Jay Cornell,  50, of Germantown, was arrested and charged with several sex-related offenses.   Cornell is a 7th grade teacher at Neelsville Middle School in Germantown.

In February 2012, detectives learned that suspicious and inappropriate contact was taking place between a teacher at Neelsville Middle School, later identified as Cornell, and a 14-year-old student at the school. Investigation showed that Cornell befriended the victim during the 2010-2011 school year when when the victim was a student in Cornell's classroom.

During the school year, Cornell began visiting the victim's home and going on excursions with the victim outsideof school activities.
