Last Chance to Apply for Commercial and Multi-Family Energy-Efficiency Project Rebate Program

From Montgomery County:

Montgomery County’s Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is encouraging businesses, non-profits, faith-based organizations and multi-family communities to apply for $1.7 million available for energy efficiency projects through a program funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009 under the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) Program. DEP announced the launch of the Commercial and Multi-Family Rebate Program, which is designed to overcome the financial barriers to making energy-efficiency improvements, as well as reduce operating costs and carbon emissions.

Applications are due May 15.  DEP received 40 applications, which were due April 15, for the first round of awards.  Projects selected for awards must be completed by June 30, 2012.

The rebate program is intended to jumpstart a wide variety of energy-efficiency projects by subsidizing the cost of the improvement, up to $75,000 or 50 percent of the cost of the project, whichever is less. Rebates will be awarded based on the energy saving potential and other merits of a project.

Projects eligible for funding include efficient lighting; insulation; heating, venting, and air conditioning upgrades; high-efficiency showers/faucets; and replacement windows and doors. Projects completed by rebate recipients will serve as examples of how cost-effective, cutting-edge energy retrofits can benefit organizations and the community.

Program details are available at the County’s energy incentive web portal at www.mcenergyfunding.com.
