Sugarloaf Grape Stomp Festival 2010

  September 25 & 26 and October 2 & 3 from Noon until 5 pm each day
The featured activity of course is the exciting Grape Stomp contest where visitors can volunteer for a friendly stomping competition. Prizes will be awarded to the winner who stomps the most juice. Tastings of select award-winning vintages and tours of the winery and vineyard will happen throughout the day.

Freedom Move Into the Fourth and Final WPS Playoff Position

Women's Pro Soccer reports that the Washington Freedom currently  sit in the fourth and final position in the 2010 WPS Playoffs tonight  after a come-from-behind 2-1 win against Sky Blue FC. Both teams played  with ferocity as they battled for the opportunity to extend their season  into the playoffs.

Freedom took to the field in pink jerseys provided  by WPS league sponsor PUMA® in support of Project Pink. Many of the  3,143 fans in attendance wore pink to show their support as well.  Project Pink, which is in conjunction with PUMA’s partnership with the  WPS, strives to raise awareness and funds in the fight against breast  cancer.

Evening Hayrides at Butler’s Orchard

The 300 acre family owned farm in Germantown, MD is offering a tractor-driven hayride around the farm. Afterward, gather around a crackling bonfire where you can enjoy the refreshments and entertainment you have brought.

At Butler’s, you can also visit the market where this is a wide assortment of fruits & vegetables, jams & jellies, honey, maple syrup, gourmet condiments, apple cider, and a variety of handmade gifts and flowers.

You can even pick your own produce with the selection of strawberries, blueberries, peas, tart cherries, thorn less blackberries, red raspberries, pumpkins, apples, peas, pumpkins and Christmas trees.

Family Events Galore at the Germantown Library

Thursday August 19, 1pm to 2pm: Mike Rose Magic comes to perform mind blowing interactive magic shows for children and teens. Seating is limited. Free tickets are available at the Library beginning Tuesday prior to the program.

Saturday August 21, 10:30am-11:30pm: Rainbow Co. presents "Sylvester and the Magic Pebble." Check out the picture book ahead of time for special reading. Seating is limited. Free tickets are available at the Library beginning Tuesday before the program.

Wednesday August 25, 7pm to 8:30pm: Master Gardeners from Montgomery County Cooperative Extension will be on the ground floor of the Library to answer gardening questions.

 

Have Fun at the 2010 Montgomery Country Fair and Help Feed the Hungry While Doing It

The 2010 Montgomery County Agricultural Fair will be held in Gaithersburg, MD from August 13 to 21.

Choose from over 40 carnival rides; participate in BINGO, cake auctions, and dance contests; and eat as many funnel cakes and snow cones your stomach can handle.

General admission is $10.00 per person while children 11 and under are free.  Parking is $5.00 per vehicle.

And please don’t forget to bring a non-perishable food donation for the Countrywide Food Drive benefitting the Manna Food Center.  Your canned food donations will help provide food to neighbors in need.
