"This guy's got Sole": A Man's 7,000 Mile Walk For Charity

Memorial Day is a day of remembrance for those who have died serving our country. It’s a great time to honor the men and women who fight daily to keep America free.

It is normally a time when most people leave the city for a nearby beach and some much needed relaxation, to celebrate the start of summer and pool season. However, not all people leave.

We met Iraq War Veteran, Troy Yocum Friday morning at Modell’s in Bethesda. He is honoring his fellow military servicemen by hiking 7,000 miles across America with a goal of raising $5 million dollars to help military families in need.

Bethesda Preschool students raised more than $5,000 for LLS

Early this morning more than 250 preschool students gathered at Bethesda Country Day School in Bethesda, Md., to be recognized by a representative from the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society for their efforts in raising more than $5,000 for the Pennies for Patients campaign.

One of more than 400 participating schools in the Washington D.C. area, Bethesda Country Day School placed in the top 20 for the amount of money raised and greatly surpassed their original goal of $2,500.

“Pennies for Patients” is a nationwide fundraiser that raises money to help cure leukemia and other blood-relation cancers. Students of all ages collect pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters throughout the program.

Breakfast at Tiffany’s Breast Cancer Fundraiser

Wednesday night, hundreds of Audrey Hepburn or Holly Golightly look-alikes (for those of you familiar with the 1961 movie) dressed in black cocktail dresses and tiaras and paraded the streets of downtown Frederick for the 2nd Annual Breakfast at Tiffany’s Breast Cancer Fundraiser.

The ladies enjoyed a cocktail reception followed by a private screening of the Breakfast At Tiffany’s movie. Additionally, there was a contest for the best Holly Golightly look-alike and an attempt to be in the Guinness World Record’s for the largest gathering of Holly Golightly look-alikes.

Frederick Mayor, Randy McClement, was an honored guest and one of the only few men in attendance.

“This is a wonderful event. Anytime we get the opportunity to put Frederick on the map, we love it!” said Mayor McClement.
