Strathmore Goes for Guinness World Record at UkeFest 2011


Ukulele players of all ages and experience levels will pluck, pick and strum their way to a Guinness World Record at Strathmore’s third annual UkeFest on Wednesday, August 24, 2011 beginning at 7 p.m. In addition to an evening of live performances by local uke aficionados, Strathmore will attempt to convene more than 851 intrepid uke players and curious community members to use the tiny ukulele to surmount a monumental task – beat the world record for Largest Ukulele Ensemble at its most popular summer concert of the season.

Smithsonian Theaters presents Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2: The Imax Experience, starting July 15 at the National Air and Space Museum Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center’s Airbus Imax Theater in Chantilly, Va., and in 3-D at the National Museum of Natural History’s Johnson Imax Theater, starting July 29.


Local "Silent" Beverage Company Makes National Noise

North America’s Largest Specialty Food & Beverage Event came to D.C. July 10th, 11th, and 12th at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.  The Fancy Food Show had 2,400 exhibitors, 180,000 products, but only one Silence Tea.

Silence Tea, originated in Gaithersburg as an all-natural tea beverage with a unique line of relaxation and calming ingredients including Chamomile and Theanine. These elements were infused with essential vitamins and antioxidants for children and adults to experience a balanced, calm, and relaxed existence.

“We have four flavors: Pomegranate Peace, Peach Chamomile White Tea, Black Tea with Lemon, and Honey Green Tea with Ginseng but plan on more.

Check out Mega Mind Sunday, July 31st, at MOVIES ON THE POTOMAC , National Harbor’s weekly outdoor movie series. Beginning at Sunset next to the marina they will be showing free outdoor movies on a big screen. Lawn chairs or blankets are recommended. No coolers with food or alcoholic beverages will be permitted.

Since it is the first official weekend of summer, get out and enjoy an outdoor street festival featuring national and regional blues stars playing acoustic Traditional & contemporary Ethiopian live music. There will be live performances; art walks, coffee ceremonies, a fashion show, food, prizes, an arts and crafts market, and cultural exhibits on Ellsworth Drive in Downtown Silver Spring from 2 p.m.- 9 p.m.

Live Music & Model Sketching at Art Whino!


On Saturday, June 18th, from 6pm – Midnight head to Art Whino Gallery in National Harbor to view Chris Sheridan’s artwork.

His show, Shadows, Persona, and Trickery takes an in-depth look at magic and religion, their symbolism and ritual, how they played a role in building our early societies, and the disconnect between these theories and beliefs and contemporary modes of thinking. There will be a free sketching session from 6pm-8pm, and a cocktail reception with live music.
